The International Day of Working Women and International Women's Day commemorates the struggle of women for their participation, on an equal footing with men in society and their full development as a person. It is celebrated on March 8. It is a national holiday in some countries.
The first edition was held in 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland extending their memorial, since then, many countries. In 1977 the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN) proclaimed March 8 as International Day for Women's Rights and International Peace.
